Lawyer's inexperience causes mistrial

A Jefferson County judge has declared a mistrial in a capital murder case after learning a court-appointed lawyer was three months shy of having enough criminal law experience to try the case.

In capital cases with two court-appointed lawyers, at least one must have five years experience.
